New Line Cinema, itself an arm of the mega-conglomerate AOL-Time Warner-CNN-Walmart-General Motors-US Congress-Applebees, found itself owning the rights to both Freddy and Jason, and with the revenues of those franchises on the decline it was time for a knock down, drag out, WWF, off the third turnbuckle, “winner kill all” (the movie’s tag line) between these two titans.Īs the movie opens, Freddy has a problem. These were questions that seemed to have no answer, and with rumors of a versus movie circulating unfulfilled even 20 years ago, it looked like we may never know.
